The use of condoms in India has fallen by almost 50% in six years. Between 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 alone, condom use has decreased by 11.6%. Although in the years 2006-2007, 26.7 million condom users were recorded; this number fell to 13.9 million users in 2012-2013. Last year, 4.6 million sterilization procedures were recorded and users of oral contraceptives fell from 9.7 in the years 2006-2007 to just 6.24 million in 2012-2013 (British  Medical Journal 2013; 347: f 6636).
